Pavement Identity: Columbus retains in its German Village and Short North neighborhoods one of the greatest quantities of historic street pavement among U.S. cities.  Although all of the surviving historic street pavement is vitrified brick, the city has a remarkable variety of types of bricks, including evidently uniquely overscaled "waffle" pattern bricks.  Sandstone curbs are another defining characteristic of Columbus.

While the goal of this website is to be as comprehensive as possible, if you know of any historic pavement in Columbus not indicated on this map, please contact site developer Robin Williams at rwilliam@scad.edu.
