RICHMOND, VIRGINIA

Pavement Identity: Richmond is one of only two cities with extensive asphalt blocks, with Monument Avenue being the longest continuous run of this material in the country.  Historic granite cubes laid in a European style fan pattern in downtown Richmond is a form of pavement rarely seen historically in the U.S., but now popular as a modern variant material.

While the goal of this website is to be as comprehensive as possible, if you know of any historic pavement in Richmond not indicated on this map, please contact site developer Robin Williams at rwilliam@scad.edu.
